چکیده

Key points Neurons in the retrosplenial cortex (RSC), a cerebral region that connects synaptically with various brain regions, are known to increase neuronal activity accordance hippocampal sharp wave-ripples. Pyramidal cells granular RSC (gRSC) layer 2/3, but not 5, exhibit slowly ramping depolarization and considerably delayed spikes response step-pulse current injection. The latencies of 2/3 pyramidal neurons were shortened by preceding This effect was mimicked activation axonal afferents from subiculum, neocortical afferents. subiculum is likely facilitate information processing flow RSC. Abstract involved diverse cognitive functions, an anatomical hub forms monosynaptic connections areas. Here, we report unique form short-term intrinsic plasticity mouse cells. These exhibited somatic injection, spike brief (priming). priming-induced sensitization distinct desensitization, which commonly observed other cortical neurons. facilitatory priming lasted for more than 3 s, providing time window increased sensitivity inputs. Based on vitro vivo patch-clamp recordings following optogenetic stimulation fibres, found preactivation subicular replicated effect. results suggest inputs may modulate subsequent integration circuits.

Early postnatal migration and development of layer II pyramidal neurons in the rodent cingulate/retrosplenial cortex.

The cingulate and retrosplenial regions are major components of the dorsomedial (dm) limbic cortex and have been implicated in a range of cognitive functions such as emotion, attention, and spatial memory. While the structure and connectivity of these cortices are well characterized, little is known about their development. Notably, the timing and mode of migration that govern the appropriate p...

Layer-specific serotonergic facilitation of IPSC in layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons of the visual cortex.

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) inhibits the induction of long-term synaptic plasticity in layer 2/3 of the visual cortex at the end of its critical period in rats. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Since inhibitory influence is crucial in the induction of synaptic plasticity, the effect of 5-HT on inhibitory transmission was investigated in layer 2/3 pyramida...

Comparison of the Upper Marginal Neurons of Cortical Layer 2 with Layer 2/3 Pyramidal Neurons in Mouse Temporal Cortex

Layer 2/3 (L2/3) excitatory neurons in the neocortex make major contributions to corticocortical connections and therefore function to integrate information across cortical areas and hemispheres. Recent evidence suggests that excitatory neurons in L2/3 can have different properties. Sparse evidence from previous studies suggests that L2 neurons located at the border between L1 and L2 (referred ...

Robo1 regulates the migration and laminar distribution of upper-layer pyramidal neurons of the cerebral cortex.

Laminar organization is a key feature of the mammalian cerebral cortex, but the mechanisms by which final positioning and "inside-out" distribution of neurons are determined remain largely unknown. Here, we demonstrate that Robo1, a member of the family of Roundabout receptors, regulates the correct positioning of layers II/III pyramidal neurons in the neocortex. Specifically, we used RNA inter...

Chemogenetic silencing of neurons in retrosplenial cortex disrupts sensory preconditioning.

An essential aspect of episodic memory is the formation of associations between neutral sensory cues in the environment. In light of recent evidence that this critical aspect of learning does not require the hippocampus, we tested the involvement of the retrosplenial cortex (RSC) in this process using a chemogenetic approach that allowed us to temporarily silence neurons along the entire rostro...
